COURTYARD SHADING
Fall 2019
Critics: Guillermo Banchini, Gonzalo Carbajo, and Rodrigo Guajardo.
Site: Brooklyn, NY Higgins Hall courtyard at Pratt Institute
Premise: To design a shading/lighting system using minimal surfaces and generate cost estimates for full size construction.
Project: From five options the hyperbolic paraboloid was chosen as the final form. A weatherproof fabric would be tightened along the welded chain frame. LED lights highlight the straight lines that make up the surface structure.
